I just bought a 160 gig Seagate Barracuda and I'm having some problems.

I have everything installed correctly but for some reason when it goes to copy Windows XP, it'll get "stuck" and won't load anywhere after 35%. The last time I tried loading it, it only went to 10%.

Now, I just RMA'd a 120gig Seagate back to Newegg, and saw this deal for the 160 and bought it instead - I RMA'd because Windows wasn't loading correctly after some malfunctioning hardware crashed my computer. It installed fine the first time, I thought it was the hard drive and it wouldn't load either Windows XP or Millienium Edition (I WAS DESPARATE!). So, I RMA'd, and I got a new hard drive and now the same thing is happening. I just switched the tape from the CD-ROM to the motherboard as well to see if it was just a bad connection, but nothing.

Now, I'm stuck with two or three possible problems. 1.) My disc needs to be cleaned or could be scratched, 2.) There's a problem with the DVD/CD-ROM drive. I haven't switched that yet, but I'm waiting to see if it's just the disc... no one around here locally has a WinXP disc I just up and borrow for a day or two. <_<; The third problem could be a problem with the motherboard connection...

But I guess all I'm asking is if there could be another problem, or if there is something I haven't read or maybe thought could be happening. Any extra input or advise would be appreciated...

As thanks, here's a link to the "deal" on the 160 gig (it's 50 bucks with a Mail-in Rebate, plus s+h):

It's always a good idea to run memtest and see how your system RAM is.

Not seeming to be the problem either... I did remove a random RAM stick, and now it won't even go to the format section of the installation. :\

Run memtest on each stick while it is in there by itself.
