I've got 4 hard drives to wipe before i sell them so i been checking out different utilitites that will wipe a hard drive. I prefer something that can do the job fairly quickly and not take several hours. I realize this is only a low security method but there isn't anything much i'm worried about someone working at trying to recover off of the hard drive. I've used DBAN before but at the moment i'm wipeing a 250 gig drive using the free version of KillDisk. What utility do you like?
I use active@killdisk or dban usually. Using the 1 pass in killdisk or "quick" method in dban does the job rapidly.

I just use DBAN, doesnt take too long if you lower runs. Can select what style and how many runs so thats all thats really necessary unless the CIA might buy your hdds, then you might try an axe.

Sure, if you have big enough magnets. I seem to recall it takes 10 Gauss to wipe a hard drive. 10 Gauss is a lot. Like MRI a lot.
