Hi everyone!

I just got a new SATA Maxtor DiamondMax 10, 200gb. I have tried to install both Windows XP Pro and Windows XP Pro X64 on it. Each time, I start from a fresh, formatted drive.

When I install Windows X64, when I get to the part of the install which formats/partitions the drive, it shows about 197gb total available space (yippee!!). However, when I install regular Windows XP Pro, it shows only about 137gb total available space.

What can I do to make Windows XP Pro see the whole drive????

Just when I figured this was in the common knowledge bin, and wasn't going to be posted anymore! Your XP Pro 32 CD is pre-SP1, meaning it doesn't recognize drives larger than 137 GB. SP1 has been out for ages, and even SP2 has been out for quite some time, so there's no reason at all to still be using a pre-SP1 install disc. Download Autostreamer, slipstream SP2 into your XP CD, and then use it to install.

Thats because you dont have sp1 installed on the xp pro system.. it cant recognise that large a drive till after that..

best bet is to create a new slipstreamed install disk with sp2 and the problem wont exist in the future

Edit.. damn, Djnes.. you must have submitted just as I started typing :D

Breaking the 137 GB barrier. (http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?p=1026129864#post1026129864)

Basically you need at least XPSP1, I'd create a slipstreamed SP2 disk and install with that.
