View Full Version : Razer Copperhead
If you check out Razer's website(www.razerzone.com) it appears they are releasing a new mouse called the Copperhead. The specs look nice, 2000dpi laser and 1000hz. The look still seems to be the same however.

Wow I just came across this today while browsing. Looks pretty awesome for us gamers. But some say that 2000 dpi is overkill.

Well you can see two side buttons in the flash.

There are two buttons on each side. And yes, the 32mb of memory is to save your configurations so that they are with you no matter where you plug the mouse into.

With the blue LED, this will match up with the Saitek Eclipse smashingly.
I now have my new "Desktop Suite" planned out...

--Saitek Eclipse Keyboard
--Saitek P3000 Gamepad
Just need that new computer to go with it...

Ill stick with my MX1000. Buying a copperhead wouldnt do me any good, I already pwn with the mx1000 and dont see any need for it to be more accurate haha.
Plus I love that its wireless

IIRC I paid $99 for my Boomslang 2k back in late '99. Along with the BS, I've got the Viper & Diamondback, and an eXactmat. Looks like Copperhead will soon be added to the stable :)

Damn, guess I'm selling off my seven month old Diamondback for this baby...
Let's look where this puppy excels and improves:
1. Always on, no one believes me when I talk about the MX1000 delay from not always being on until they play with it. I convinced one person back to his MX700 the last time I talked about it...opps I think....
2. On the fly DPI, Logitech has it with recent MX118 so it's no wonder...
3. Laser over optical means gaming surface accuracy won't be a question I bet....
4. Oh so better side button placement from what I've seen...and both windows buttons can be found on the left or right side now, joy of joys ^_^
5. Looks so much cooler
Only down fall I see is price, but I guess keeping up with the latest and greatest never was a cheap hobby huh ^_^?

did your boomslang every break ?
I went through 2 boomslangs. a 2100, and a 2000. POS. i think i went through one a year. then i got a logitech, and now i have the diamondback. i probably still get the copperhead.
but yea, they were poor quality. both of my boomslang started to stick or doubleclick like mad, and of course you couldnt warranty cause they went out of business...
while my first microsoft optical is still going strong after 6-7 years.
either i played to much cs back then or the mouse just wasnt up to my mad clicking skillz. lol :D

The mouse doesnt make the man!!.....But if it's wireless overclocking your usb ports does nothing. I need more that 125Hz poling rate!
Edit: The new laser system samples at 1000Hz. The polling rate results in a 1ms response time. In comparison, conventional mice poll at 125Hz for a response time of 8ms. You will be able to adjust the USB polling rate to 125Hz, 500Hz, and 1000Hz. Sweet! built in usb overclocking. Now I know I will get this mouse, no more useing crappy hacks!

I had an MX700 first, but it was slow so I ditched and kept the keyboard
Got the MX1000 and it was fast, but fucking fat, fattest thing I've ever played with in my life, I couldn't stand it, it was like my hand was lumped around a loaf of bread.
Eventually I bought a Razer Diamondback Plasma off eBay and it's been great, my CS source scores sky rocketed up and I'm slowly improving in BF2 and UT. I hate to say it, but my new found success in games is due to this mouse. I love everything about it (except the blue LED isn't strong enough lol).
Because I love the Diamondback so much right now, I don't think I'll be changing to a Coppermine yet, but when it breaks down, be certain I won't be going logitech again.
P.S. Did you know it installs a friggin' hardware abstraction layer JUST for the MX1000, I mean honestly, that's like 10MB of bloatware to run a mouse. I'll stick to on the fly sensitivity and cool compact drivers thanks.

From the looks of the copperhead, it is the same size and shape at the diamond then? Diamondback's size is too small for me so I went with the MX518. I have a MX1000 too for general desktop use. I prefer the MX518 for gaming.
I still have an original first year Boomslang 2000 that still works fairly well, after 3 years of continuous use, the ball got worn somwhat (reduced it size just enough that when you lifted it, the ball would, say drop a little, and through off the cursor." Razer was a great company to deal with then when they had some minor driver issues at first. Their tech support was great. I'm glad they came back but I wish they'd bring out a larger mouse with some more ergonomic side buttons.
Logitech could easily counter the new copperhead with a say 10 dollar more expensive than the 518 gamer oriented and corded version of the MX1000, say the MX918?.
Hopefully the actual price of the Copperhead will be below the MSRP of 80 bucks for thos that want it. The idea of saving the setting on mouse are interesting (if you could also save certain game profiles), but each pc would still need Razer's drivers. Maybe the driver could be on the onboard Mouse memory such that there would be no need to download a new driver to the PC for the mouse.

Think I will keep my Diamondback. Tried some of the reg hacks but then I really donīt need that kind of stuff itīs precise as itīs anyway. Not sure if it looks as good as the Magma red for example though guess itīs cool with pulsating mouse. I am sure itīs a bit of an improvement but I donīt think going from 1600 to 2000 will make a major difference even though I as a high sensitivity gamer can easily see the difference in precision as for a MX510 vs the Diamondback for example.
I guess I am not just Hard enough to get this 90$ mouse or what it will be lol. Think I will be happy with my Diamondback for many years to come. Though the big plus is definiatly the side buttons which seem to be more usable. But then if you canīt programme them all like you canīt with the DB. Guess we will have to see

With 32mb, you could probably store the configs of all mice in you county several times. (How much does a mouse config file take? A few hundred bytes at most?

Yeah I was just thinking about that, you could actually store word documents and stuff with that much space as well. I wonder if it will allow stuff like that, like a regular USB flash card?

This sounds pretty sweet, but I already dropped $50 on an mx510 a while back (yes I shoul've waited for another $20-$30 deal, but I couldn't wait any longer) so I think I'll be fine with this until it breaks.

Geez people, get a little pissed when playing games do we!!! :p
Guess this isn't a logitech party but this might beat the first, second or whatever you guys were talking about as far as first to market.

Yeah, looks like logitech is about to bring the smackdown on Razer (at least for right handed users) if razer can't bring their product to market before logitech does and the Razer Copperhead is more expensive than the Logitech equivalent (SRP anyway):
2000 DPI
G5 mouse with adjustable weight system: Logitech PRICE 69.99
G7 Cordless mouse with 2 battery packs: Logitech PRICE 99.99
Plus a gaming keyboard.
