Will the new consoles be noisy?

I posted quite some time ago that I thought the next gen consoles would be either A:Big or B:Noisy. My thread was met with alot of "NO way man, they'll use heatpipes etc" And from early reports I've read from beta kits developers are saying the x360 is very noisy. I think its inevitable that they would be , considering that they have fast 90nm processors, and gpu's coupled with limited space for heatsinks. With their small size I'd figure they aren't going to be using anymore than 1 or 2 60 or 80mm cooling fans. Couple that with 3.2ghz cpus and modern gpus and I think we will be having to turn up our hometheaters. The ps3 looks to be rather huge so perhaps it will have decently large heatsinks perhaps negating the need for fast/loud fans but I think its safe to assume the diminuitive x360 will be one loud SOB. Its not gonna stop me from getting one, hopefully the wireless controllers won't care if I hide the xbox away behind a closed door or something.

I could be wrong, but i'm pretty sure their cooling solution consists more then just slapping a fat chunk of copper in there with a bunch of fans.

They still need fans for a radiator even if its on water, with 3 3.3ghz CPUs(it's still that isnt it) it has to be a tab bit warmer than just a 733mhz celery, but I'm sure it won't turn into a Chernobyl reactor :D

The Revolution looks a little cozy with its size, Probably some good heatpipe designs to cool it, maybe something like Shuttle's ICE cooling solution, or laptop cooling. If they use 40mm fans in it, it could make a little whining noise though.

Bump for , I told you so. I'd also like to add now that the ps3 will either be quiet or hot. Krazy Ken says it will be whisper quiet, I say thats another blatant Sony lie. You just can't get away from the realities of thermal output with these fast 90nm cpus, not to mention the nvidia space heater that will be in the box. Nintendo's little wii however is going to be quiet and cool running, since its just a bit faster than a gamecube anyways.

However, most of the noise from the 360 has absolutely nothing to do with the fans. The fans in fact are quite quiet. What makes the noise is the disk drive, which really has no relation to what this thread was speculating.

Wasn't that the case with the original XBOX also? I know my XBOX was the loudest of the three consoles (even my revision 1 PS2) and I think it was because of the loud ass hard drive.

I expect the PS3 to be noisy. The Wii will likely be quiet...Nintendo always seems to release very refined consoles in terms of manufacturing quality.

Everything I have read says that the major noise producer in the 360 is the DVD drive. And only certain 360s have this noisy drive. That is why you see all the differing statements as to the 360's noise output. Personally I am waiting for the 65nm based 360s to come out as hopefully they will run cooler and have quieter fans.

I have a feeling that the Wii will be very quiet due to its lower abilities compared to the 360 or PS3. The PS3 is going to be noisy, able to heat a small house, or both. You can not cram that much stuff into such a tiny case and not run hot.

You seem to be contradicting yourself. The fans on the 360 are quiet, and cant be run any quieter, they are already undervolted to 5.4V
