They are on their way to being the next G.Skill.

To be serious, they're not really noted for having outstanding performance RAM. I admit that I'm not familiar with their products.

It's not so much the brand as the chips the sticks are running. Most TCCD's have similar performance regardless of brand as do most BH-5, Microns, ect...

The good brands (G.Skill, OCZ, and now GEiL) will match up the best chips and put them on a brainpower PCB.

and then there's crucial/micron that uses their own pcb with their own ram chips.

I have a 512 stick that OCs pretty good. 280ish. They sell tons of Centon memory at local BB, CUSA and CC around here. Sometime the price is good, ya cant refuse.

Bottom line, if the price fits--the're good ram for the money.

Centon's actually been around for a long time, but i guess they never really focused on the competitive high end market. You probably wouldn't want to buy any of their value stuff on newegg, but you should definitely check them out the end of this year. Their new product line should be off the hook.

Okay one year later....is Centon still a good memory choice? Our local Compusa has a rebate special of 1GB PC3200 DDR SDRAM for $75 (after $35 rebate) right now.

I'm wanting to upgrade my 512mb (2 x 256) ram I've got now. Hopefully it'll fix my 6600 GT graphics card issue I'm having when playing Sims 1.

I was thinking, "when the fuck did I reply to this thread" while looking at the date but not seeing the 2005. Then the following post referred to the year and viola, now I remember

As for your question, I think that ram is too expensive. Unless you have no choice but to buy at CUSA, I would buy online preferably at NEWEGG. Centon isn't bad ram. It just doesn’t win any awards for timings and overclocking potential. It is compatible with most boards though--probably why the local retailer like to sell it.
