I have a 250gb maxtor ide harddrive from my old system connected to a promise ultra 100 tx2. When I have the connector pin set to either master or cable select the drive is recognized in the bios but my system fails to boot up and i just get a blank screen. But when i remove the pin totally the system boots up and recognizes the drive in the bios but after xp starts up the drive is nowhere to be seen.I have the dell dimension 9100.I already have a dvd rom and dvd recorder connected to the motherboard ide cable.

umm the Tx2 is a RAID card. The HDD will not show in the BIOS at all, it will olny show in the RAID cards BIOS, you will need to define an array to the drive.. I used that card a long time ago you need another matching HDD to run RAID with it. I belive there was newer firmware that would allow JODB so you can run one HDD on it.. you will also need a drive Floppy disk to install windows on it

Ok how do i go about defining the drive? It shows up in the boot sequence menu after i press f2 and in the raid card bios like you mentioned. I already have xp installed on the sata drive but its only 80 gb compared to the 250 of the ide im trying to install. The bios of the promise card is 2.20.0.15
