Help with raising max sound on notebook

OK, on my dell notebook when I watch movies the sound is a bit low even with all sound settings turned up to MAX. Other applications and games are fine with the sound, but when I watch a DVD movie for some reason its real low. Actally DVD movie or a 600 meg video file is also low.

So does anyone know a way that I can max out the sound higher then the computer will allow? LIke is there a reg edit, command that I can manually type in new values of sound?

I know my computer speakers can go a lot louder! its just that the software settings are limiting me.

Depending on what you use for playback, there are many plugins that can enhance various audio properties and I'm sure volume is one of them.
