Optorite Laser Mouse Red or Blue $29 on sale.
Looks exactly like mx1000 but has a cord so no batteries. WOOHOO!! Also has all the same buttons pretty much. I picked one of these up myself.

Actually while at first glance it appears to be the same at the MX1000, check out this review where they show both side by side:

I believe he referred to the Optorite ML-100/101 as the MX1000's "fatter big brother". I was looking very closely at this model and like the other poster I went with the MX518 instead. I love MX518's ability to adjust the DPI on the fly and prefer its lighter weight when compared to the MX1000 I have for my second machine.

Cool find, I just read the article.
In the plusses they say "Very light", I actually prefer a heavier mouse, I've considered putting lead weights in my MX1000 :)
Oh, if you're interested in the MX1000 battery life, I haven't charged mine for 3 days of heavy use, I'm on one light. The "Low Battery Alert" hasn't showed up yet, I can probably use it for the rest of the day... nice mouse!

damn you only get 3 days of heavy use? Did you charge yours fully the first time you used it? Mine can last over a week and a half before I get to 1 dot on the battery life indicator.
Im certainly a heavy user... gaming and what not.
