Half Life GOTY original version.

Version 1.1.1.0

I try to play online...but get the error stating that my game is out of date.

Yet, when I run the updater, says no newer updates are avalible...and AFAIK 1.1.1.0 is the latest version.

I can't play any of the mods online, either. Counterstrike, Deathmatch, ect ect all have the same error.

Help?

are you running the game through steam or from the old sierra/Half-life binaries?

Trying to run it through steam just loads the steam apge to buy half life 2.

and I can't register the CD key since I got the game used. >_<

Your out of luck then. You need a valid copy/cd key to play the game on steam.

If you have broadband i suggest getting it through steam and downloading all the content.

There's nothing you can do. To play online you HAVE TO register it on Steam.

Which means the guy before you registered the CD key then sold it to you. Regardless, purchasing the game used is against the EULA.

Teh police are coming!!1

Yeah, you know what? These days since everything is online/MP, you might want to avoid getting anything used, unless you're aiming for some old vintage series games (Warcraft1 or something like that). Everything that requires a CD-key/acct; I'd buy it original, new to be safe.

Quick! Burn your hdd!!! \

But seriously, not to flame the OP, why not just play CS source? The graphics kick ass and not nearly as many hackers.

Is it free?

Free with the retail purchase of HL2. Not sure if its freeware that you can DL somewhere.

LoL... I like how everyone tells you to just play it but they fail to realize it costs money to get the latest version through steam.

Where?!? I swear I didn't do it this time......Selling stolen copies of HL2 out of the trunk of my car in the GameStop parking lot isn't a crime. Its a service to the public...

Reminds me of that scene in The Core . . .

:knock on the door:
:"hacker" notices FBI outside, runs to his computers, purges everything / microwaves CDs:
:FBI enter, guns drawn:
"These may look like computers . . ."

He was later asked to shut down the internet.

Ah, The Core - it taught me everything I know about physics and computers :) .

If I had the funds do you think I'd have bought it used?

did you bother reading up at all on the game before you purchased?

thats the biggest mistake people make when going to buy a game, they don't read what is or may be required (in this case a valid HL/Steam key) and they get screwed.

Buying over steam, which i believe the Valve Premier Pack is $20 or so, will assure you of getting a working product*. Plus you get all thoes other games too (HL, OP4, DOD, TFC, DMC, Rico)

I, unlike everyone else here it seems, Can not just shit money.

There for, Even 10 dollars is an INCREDIBLE ammount to me.

So thats the reason why I can't just go and *drop* 60 dollars on HL2, or whatever else.

then stop wasting time online and get a job

I agree. You'd be suprised how much money you can make (especially if you don't break 5g's), since you aren't getting taxed yet. Understandably, not many of your typical < 18yrs jobs (ala mall/office job) is gonna pay THAT much, but it'll be enough. And you'll certainly have more than enough to buy games new.

Plus it gives you a taste of what life after college is like, 8 or 9-5 grind...ugh

But yes, enjoy your youth =D.

Oh that is classic, reading that made me laugh. And it was the first time I laughed today. I've had a real bad day.

I have a job.

All my money goes to keeping the fucking roof over my head and food in my fridge.

Well then this thread is over because there are no other options or alternatives. Stick to singleplayer.

Well, if it was bought used from a legitimate place, he DOES have a legal gripe if he can't play it online. Return it if so, and if they give you crap, play that card.
