A bad stick of RAM really screwed up my HDD. Had corruption all over the place. So I decided to reformat. Install XP...go to put SP2 on...CHECKSUM failure. Keep trying again and again. Same result. Begin to believe that my hardware is fubared. Did a CPU, mem, and HDD test. No issues.

Finally the light comes on. My drive is partioned for 160GB. WinXP before SP1 only support about ~130GB. Ding. Use the HDD utility from boot disk I had and repartioned for 130GB. Install WinXP, patch, reset partion size back to 160GB..all is good.

God..I think I get the "dum" "bass" award on this one. Just through I would share my stupidity with you all :D

Classify it as a "learning experience" and it won't seem so bad!

edit: if you have no sense of humor, don't read this post.
Sorry, but it fits. (http://www.despair.com/demotivators/incompetence.html) ;)

INCOMPETENCE.
When You Earnestly Believe You Can Compensate For A Lack Of Skill By Doubling Your Efforts, There's No End To What You Can't Do.
