sure, just make two 10GB partitions and install Windows XP twice (legally, of course).

Is XP licensed per-computer? If so, it would actually be ok to install it twice on the same hardware. The registration system definitely allows it.

Your right, its OK to install multiple copies of XP on one machine. However running 2 copies at the same time (ie XP Guest in an XP virtual machine) using the same key is a no no.

I don't get why you would want to put two of them on the same comp. WHy don't you just make two accounts. The internet one could be limited and your music one could be an admin

I guess he'd want to do things to one of the installs that aren't limited to per-user settings.

This is the only way that makes sense and is legal. If you dual boot two copies of XP, you have to have two licenses. Just create two user accounts for what you want done. I'm not sure why suddenly everyone wants to dual boot or setup hardware profiles all of a sudden, just to accomplish what separate user accounts can do.

the reason why i wanna do this is.. having both internet and music application for producing requires alot of CPU usage RAM, etc..
what i wanna do on one install is to have internet connection which i can mess around with games and programs, dling stuff listening to music etc...
and the other install i wanna use my music appz only.. so that I can tweak XP for the best preformance by disabling all the functions that i dont need, but i will still be needing them, and I can use the on the other installation of XP..

Okay, from what you've just said, that could still be accomplished with user accounts. I also think your getting the dangerous disease, where you're trying to do too much to your config, where you're going to have negative results. Why not use one user account, optimize the system, and use it for all your purposes? Your not going to be doing either of the primary tasks at the same time ( or else you wouldn't be asking how to dual boot in the first place), so what's the big deal? The phrase mountain our of a mole hill comes to mind.

dual booting is easy.. i would give each install a 20 gb partition though.. any maybe more depending how big these "music appz" are...
you can do it with multiple users too.. i can see arguments for both ways.. and really dual booting is no harder than multiple users in my opinion.. you just waste an extra 6 gb or so of space by having windows installed twice..
also remember that both installs will need windows updates.. so you will have to do all the updates twice.. you can make your a/v program share definitions depending what it is.. but oyu might just have those seperate too..

I will try to give the accounts a chance ;)
