View Full Version : Slow Maxtor diamondmax 10?

recently got a maxtor diamond max 10 16 meg cache 250gb SATA. it seems slower than my western digital wd800jb that died,and im wondering if theres anything i can check or do to maybe get some speed out of this thing?i was under the impression it was fast,but it seems the same as my old western digital.heres my system spec below incase anyone is wondering.
MSI k8t neo-fsr mobo.
Athlon 64 3000
1 gig corsair ram.

You will want to make sure that you have the latest
Via DriveStation Drivers
Via Hyperion Drivers
Via has the new Hyperion Pro that combines both of the above. Head to www.viaarena.com to learn more.
You may also want to head off to MSI's website and see if there is a BIOS update that addresses storage issues. Generally, SATA increases system complexity, particularly with kernel level drivers that must be loaded at bootup rather than using the generic ATAPI driver, and that may make for a longer boot time, particularly if you're allowing the SATA RAID BIOS to run. If that's true, you should disable RAID in the BIOS and leave it on just SATA for your SLED setup.

thanks for the reply doug.im not sure yet,but it seems like its slow on how long it takes to think once i go to open a program.the write seems fast,just reading in general seems slow.
