Well I normally don't ask questions unless I'm stumped, and I'm stumped alright.
For the last 3-5 days or so, my connection (cable) will randomly drop at times. Sometimes it will go 8+ hours with no interuption, other times it drops several times within an hour. It always reconnects within 1-3 minutes, but I cannot find out what's causing it.
- I've ran 3 different spyware scanners (Adaware, Spybot, MS's official tool), all come out clean.
- I've ran 2 anti virus scanners (Norton and Trend), all come out clean.
- I've done Windows Update just to make sure there wasn't some security flaw I was open too that there was a fix for, got the latest set of updates working fine.
Other relevant information that may prove useful(?):
- the cable modem is an Abit, which is practically brand new (though yea it could be faulty but I doublt it)
- I recently updated my video card drivers (gf4mx4k) to the 71.xx's (forgot the last 2 numbers, and I also doubt this could cause it).
- Already called my ISP several times, they say theres nothing wrong on their end. When my connection is running, it is perfectly fine no lag, no packet loss. It just randomly drops at times.
- Already checked out all connections and made sure they were secure.
- Already leased a new IP several times just to make sure it wasn't an attack on my current ip.
- Used Windows Firewall, same with it on as with it off
Suspscions:
- Possible network card going bad? Maybe but I wanna rule out any software problems first before I go fiddling with new hardware.
- Not overheating, I'm running at stable temperatures easily.
- Something in Windows Update fubared my connection?
It's not a huge bad thing but it's very strange my connection randomly drops for almost a week straight. Very curious as to its cause.
specs:
600 mhz PIII
512 MB DDR
GF4 MX 4000 64 MB
80 GB Maxtor HDD
ESS Allegro 32 bit Sound Card (onboard)
Help appreciated :(
