View Full Version : Printer problem maybe....some turned off services ?
I tweak my system and turn off alot of services, and also on my firewall i dont give acces to print spooler.
I dont know if this will make the printer print again or not.
Just wondering on Xp, if anyone knows what services need to be enabled for a printer to print a page from the net.
Either that or it broke.
Thanks..

Where does it stop?
Does it get to the print queue? Do you get any errors?
As for the services: Set everything you have disabled to manual, see if you can print, and if you can, check and see what services started.
If it's the system in your .sig, you can probably turn them all on again without noticing a difference. Less hassle that way.
Also: <fx type="visual cue">Starts countdown for the "He's an idiot for disabling any service" - brigade to arrive.</fx>
(For the record, I agree that disabling services is a bad risk/performance payoff for a large majority of users. I just happen to disagree with the way some of you handle the issue, and your unwillingness to accept that the performance gain can be noticable in some cases.)

Well played. Well played indeed.

to print stuff you need this service running
print spooler (i think its spelled correctly) i believe it has to be automatic even and not manual

Make sure you are logged in as the with administrator rights, then go to start, then run.
type this:
net stop spooler <enter>
Open your active printers, delete any jobs currently in queue. Set your printer to default. Then, go back to Start --> Run, and type this:
net start spooler <enter>
Try printing. Should fix your issues, assuming that your printer is functional, connected properly, and configured correctly.
Reboot. :)
I won't make my thoughts about service disabling known, as I really don't see the point. :)
Good luck.
