Windows only ever causes problems for me.
Anyways, I have recently built my gaming rig (see below) so I can play Guild Wars. I get all the drivers installed with no problems. Service Pack 4 & all the hotfixes. No problems. I install GW & SC Pandora Tomorrow. When I play either of them they run smooth & pretty, up until they crash. Looking at the Event Viewer, I see there is a event ID 6005 & 6009. I have no idea what the hell that means but I hopes someone here does & is nice enough to help me out.
I was told by someone I know at a computer shop that I would have to use XP because 2k pro sucks for gaming. I really hope that isn't so. I don't want to give Gates anymore of my money (that rich bastard).
Thanks to everyone in advance.

How old is that game? Windows 2000 is just fine for almost all games made late 2001 to present. You shouldn't need Windows XP. Try slipstreaming Service Pack 4 on the Windows 2000 install CD, so you don't have to apply it after installing Windows 2000.

Super Mario:
I'm a new guy. What does " Try slipstreaming Service Pack 4 on the Windows 2000 install CD" mean and how do I do it?

Slipstream:

Your problem:
I have a feeling if you re-install your video card drivers then you might clear up the problem. I had an issue similar to yours and a different driver build cleared it up.

You can install SP4 on top of W2K without problems. Just make sure your behind a firewall. ;)

Sometimes it would bluescreen & sometimes it would just reboot with no warning.
I thought it might have something to do with the vid drivers so I tried the drivers from the Leadtek site with no change. I also tried w/o SP4, I tried w/ AVG instead of norton (I heard that might be the problem too), I even tried no anti-virus software (no, I didn't feel safe when I did that). All with no change.
I think I may have solved the problem though. It said somthing about setting my memory to 2T if I had double sided RAM running dual in slots 1 & 3, but I had em in 2 & 4 so everything should have been fine at 1T. I set it com 2T and it only rarely crashes in GW now, but not at all in Pandora Tomorrow. I'm thinking those crashes are GW client crashes, or I'm pretty sure they are. After all, new MMOs crash for a while, right? Then again, I may just be too optomistic.
If anyone feels I've wasted your time trying to help me, I apologize.

Loosen your RAM timings a bit, ie.. 2.5-3-3-7 or 3-3-3-8 and run the RAM at 1T if at all possible.

Uhh 2T (1T Disabled) is looser/slower so he should try that if need be! If he still crashes it may be a powersupply issue.

Uh...no kidding. The difference between 2-2-2-5 and 3-4-4-8 under 1T is not that substantial. But the difference between 1T and 2T are huge (so I hear).
