My DVD drive (Hitachi GD-8000) had always worked perfectly, up till now after I have just upgraded. It reinstalled XP just fine, and I can still boot from CD if I don't let it get into Windows, but in XP it can't read anything. It can still tell if a disc is in or not, but when I put any disc in it says the disc is corrupted or in a format Windows can't read. My current hardware:
Athlon 64 3000+
Chaintech VNF4 Ultra
1Gig Corsair Value
Radeon X600XT
Any help would be appreciated.

Got any weird utilities loaded that handle burning on the fly, or virtual disc creation?

What exactly did you just upgrade? Everything that's listed, or only a few parts?
Also, did you switch IDE cables? You could have a bad one on there now.
Let us know what you changed before you started having trouble with the drive.

Wow, I never thought it was the cable since it was the same one i had used before, but I switched it out and it works fine now. Why would it still work fine outside of windows but not in windows? Anyways, Thank you very much.

Glad to help.
Cable problems can cause really weird things to happen. When the data being transfered is corrupted anything can go wrong. ;)
