View Full Version : Forgot how to create a Boot Disk.....

I need it to reformat a Laptop and do a fresh installation of XP Pro ;)

start -> my computer -> right click appropriate drive -> format -> check "create boot disk" -> start format.

You don't need a boot disk, you boot off of the CD. Otherwise what ^^he^^ said. :D

Sorry I was just using a cheesy word. It's got the basic O/S boot disks and some are modified and others are user created and pretty neat. Anyways...

What I need is a Boot disk with Fdisk on it so I can format my C: and delete/create partitions .........

Ok the XP CD is bootable and has all those features built into it. Or as I said you can go to www.bootdisk.com or http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm and grab a 98 booty or something and do those things if you can't boot from CD.

Then do this:

in a Windows 98 machine. You'll get your fdisk on it then.

Problem is ..... I havent used WIndows 98 since ME came out, I never keep a computer out of style ;)

Problem with that is that Windows XP is not booting.... I installed it from within Windows and it overrid the existing one but still left a bunch of stuff there. I want to completely wipeout everything.....

Boot to the disk and after the first screen (not the repair screen) delete the partitions then repartition and reformat. Easy enough.

Man, I finally did it. I formated the C: and I used a Windows XP CD I had, everything went good till it told me it couldnt find some files, I just popped another XP CD and it was all gooood :cool:
