Ok, First of ill state my problem, and if you guys find that its illegal and you cant do it, then let me know. My LEGAL version of Windows XP Home Edition has become so scratched that I cant re-install it on my computer. I didnt know it didnt work before I went to reformat, and now I cant fix my computer and I need it for certian things. Now my question to you guys is, Is it legal and possible for someone to host a .iso format of the windows xp home edition cd? I do not need the key as I believe thats the most important thing. I have the legit one, but need this reformatted fast. If someone would be nice enough to host me the cd image I would be ever so grateful. And once again if this is illegal then let me know. I dont think it is cause I have the legit key, just the cd doesnt work.
Thanks In advance and PM me if you are willing.
Nathan

Depending on where you live you are very likely to be legally entitled to obtain a working copy of Windows XP Home that is equivilent to the version you own in order to rebuild your system and apply your license key by whatever means necesarry. Many states have ruled that software licensing as intellectual property is not bound to the actual media that the software is distributed on. Since XP Home media itself is not copy protected you are not breaking the DMCA either.

If you can get a replacement copy from Microsoft, that would be best. In your particular case if you were to find and download an ISO and then proceed to install using your legitimate license key then you should also be allright, provided that you comply with the terms of the license. In other words, if you have an OEM license, you must install the OS to the exact same computer for which the license was originally purchased since it is not a transferrable license.

thats sort of what I was thinking and part I did not know. The problem with searching for a proper .iso is that I do not like seaching warez as I like having the legit copies and dont want my other comp filled with popups and p0rn. I was hoping mabey someone here would personally host it for me.

I feel your pain, but you can't ask for people to provide you an ISO here. You can search the web, which would probably be the quickest route or you can contact MS. I think they require you to mail them your original CD.

Good luck to you.
