I'm helping a friend upgrade his memory (lives a couple states away) and have a couple questions.

As I'm not able to get my hands on his computer, I've had him use CPU-Z to tell me his system specs. For a mobo he's got an MSI MS-6728 which, I'm guessing is this one MSI 865PE NEO (http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_detail.php?UID=454). He currently has a dual-channel setup; 256MB PC3200 sticks in the 1 & 3 slots.

He wants to upgrade since this is inadequate for playing WoW (World of Warcraft). I also play the game and find that 1gb of memory gives me pretty good results (dual-channel of course). My question is, is there any way he can use what he has along with adding on another gig of RAM? If so, would it be as simple as moving his current RAM into the 2 & 4 slots and his new RAM into the 1 & 3 slots? If so, I was thinking of recommending what I have (Patriot Dual Channel (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=20-220-033&depa=1)) since it's a nice bang for your buck.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

crucial ballistix (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=20-146-546&depa=1) is also very nice ram that is in that price range. rated for 2-2-2-8 timings by crucial.

one thing to note though, carefully looking at that board.. it's not the one he has if he's running in 1+3, because there's onlt two dimm slots.

that is his board

also, it's handy for later upgrades, but there't no real reason to get him ram that has tighter timings than the current ram. check to see what his timings are.
and lastly, i'd have the ram go like this, from slot1 to 4
256mb, 512mb, 256mb, 512mb
that would ensure greatest compatibility imo

I think we're just going to stick to 1gb total and go with this (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=20-220-032&depa=1) . Thanks for the input though.
