I just recently came into trying to fix a friends hard drive,

I dont hear any whirring noises, tic tacs, or anything else
I've had a couple drives die before but there was always some sort of sound letting me know

for some odd reason since i have never had a no power boot hd, i'm guessing its safe to assume that the data on there is still intact not corrupted in anyway.

i've read that i can replace the controller card which mite be able to boot up the hd for me to recover all the data then trash the drive.

is anythign i said in this post valid? or am i just dealing with paper weight?

It is possible but not likely that a controller board swap will get the drive working long enough to recover whatever was on it. If you do try another controller board, it must be of the same model/capacity and the same firmware version. Also, removing the controller board is hazrdous and may trash the entire drive. Google for more info and head to FS/T to see if anyone has a drive that's the exact same that they will let go cheap so that you can try.
