I'm running a single ST3120827AS. When right clicking a large file (for example, a movie), the drive emits a quick "zipping" sort of sound. It's a short, fairly quiet, high pitched "zip." It lasts just shy of a second in duration.

I thought I ought to make mention of this, as it's an entirely new sound to me. Previous searches haven't yielded any information. If anyone could tell me why the drive might make such a sound, it would be appreciated. I've heard maxtors make deep growls, IBM's click, but never this.

*edit, "quiet", not "quite."

Yea id ont know, i owna 7200.7 and a 7200.8. The 7200.7 is quiet all the time, but this 7200.8 that i just got makes a squeek noise when i shut down. I might try to get anotehr 7200.8 and see if that makes the noise.
