NEED HELP FAST - changing out mobo & new mobo wants to clear my SATA Raid 0 drives

I'm installing a new mobo and ALL of my important data is on my "D" partition on my SATA Raid 0 drives.

I thought I could just hook these hard drives right up to the new mobo and it would recognize my partitions and data just fine.

However, when I run the Raid utility on the mobo (DFI NF3) to tell it what Raid configuration I want (striping), it asks to clear my data and will not let me go on unless I clear my data.

Can you keep partitioned data on Raid 0 drives when changing to new mobo?

Please help as I have this thing torn apart and need to get it going tonight, thx. Does it make a difference if your drives switched order when hooking up to a different mobo?

Most raid controllers will not allow you to switch drives from one controller to another, especially with different chipset, and keep the info. It's a difference in they way they handle things. Your only option is to put the old system together, back it up, then move the drives and start from scratch.

Someone had told me I could do it, but didn't tell me how to do it.

I am using the same chipset just different brand, but still no go on it.

Thx for the help

Next time, if someone tells you that you can do something, get directions so you know how to do it so this doesn't happen again.

alot of people say they have NEVER been able to swap mobo's and keep raid 0 info, i personally have never either. always backup your data

Fortunately I found an old ATA66 5400RPM hard drive under my pile that was big enough to handle my data (15 DVD's would have taken forever to record).

I thought I would be home free, but I guess I was wrong. This new mobo (DFI NF3 250) still won't handle my RAID 0 SATA drives.

I followed the manual concerning the bios and running the RAID utility (I set it to "striping"). It just didn't seem like this utility worked like it should and there were no directions on using the utility. It asked me if I wanted to clear data as before, I chose "YES" but it didn't seem to do anything. I had no other options available so I figured it was finished.

Anyhow, after doing that, I try to install Win XP but when it asks me to select the drive to install it to, it does not show a combined drive but shows 2 separate drives. It also shows one hard drive as being "unpartitioned space" and the other one as "partitioned - C Drive".

What do I need to do so that WinXP recognizes just a single hard drive??? I

if they where actually in a RAID array
the OS would only see one drive

you might try zeroing the drives first then rebuilding the array

Installed XP Raid driver? F6 when first installing XP?
