Ok guys so I have a Sony DRX-510UL external cd burner. I have taken it out of its enclosure and installed it in my pc. I want to take the enclosure and put a hard drive in it, so i can hook it up to my mac mini. I have tried it and all the computers do is pick up the enclosure, but dont detect a drive. Has anyone done this before? I would think it would all be standard.

Thanks

No, not necessarily. If the enclosure has some sort of BIOS in it specific to that burner it won't work for anything else. I can't tell you for sure if this is the case however.

Try changing the jumpers on the drive around. Make it either CS or Master.
