I just recieved an 80GB Western Digital SATA HD and I installed it and it seems to be recognized as a external hardware device and does not show as a hard drive in the computer's menu. I'm using a GA-K8N-Ultra9 Mobo and I have the drived plugged into the Sil3114 ports along the bottom of the board.
Any suggestions ?

Start > Settings > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Managment > Disk Management.
Then create a partition on the new drive.
It will still show up as a removeable device (because SATA is Hotswapable), but that is how you get it to show up in My Computer after Device Manager finds it.

I tired that and the SATA drive isnt even listed. It seems to only be recognized on inital boot when it asks about RAID configs. After that it never appears again ? should i have it plugged into a certain slot or something. I bought it OEM so it didnt come with instructions or drivers. But i supposedly have all the SATA controllers and drivers that came with my mobo.
P.S. -this drive is meant only for storage

Does the Sil3114 show up in Device Manager?
Even if it does, go to the website of your MB MFG and download the latest drivers for it, and give those a try.

Reflashed the Bios and everything seems to be working. Had to set up the drive in the RAID array as JBOD to get it to recognize as a HD
