Ok, let me first start off by saying i have a fairly good knollege of computers, and most types of software. Now with that said let me star explaining my problem and its current state.

A few days ago i was using an application to creat a dvd that contained game cds (turnning a 5 cd set of a game into a dvd). now while i was saving the file about 3.3 or so gigs, as an .iso file for later editing/burning in Nero. well while save this file takes a bit of time to save as it effectivly making a cd image my machine rebooted do to a power outage.

well my machine rebooted and loaded into windows (toke a lot longer than normal 26 or so swipes ow the blue loading bar, normal only takes 3-4) finaly loaded up windows so i go an look for that uncompleted save iso image so i could delete it. Did that and then started using a defraging software to streighten up all the file fragmentation. I use Perfect Disk 7. and becuase of this i tryed to do a online defrag (has nothing to do with internet, its a defrag that that cleans up your boot and page file) anyways it said that there were problems with the drive so it couldnt continue with the offline defrag. I knew something was up then, so i go back to windows and do a normal defrag with the same program and it toke a very long time much longer than it has ever before. It complets and then i do a check disk to fix the drive takes three hours but fixes the problems with te drive (stage 4 and 5 take a very long time). retry the offline defrag and it works.

That brings you to where im at now, the machine is still taking a very long time to boot into windows(POST is as fast as it has ever been 2 secounds on avrage so i know its no the hardware) so this leaves me to beliefe that there is something wrong with the boot.ini file or something.

reinstalling is an option and is not a problem (but would like to leave it as a last resort option)

just tell me if you need more info.
if any one can help it would be greatly noted.

---> Edit:
forgot to say that the latest drivers for all hardware are installed, and have been for a fair amount of time, also including all updates for xp.

and the soul reason why this accured was because of that file not save correctly.

Maybe try system restore.

its not some thing that system restore would be able to fix, beside i leave it turned off as its usless for theses types of problems.

Sounds to me like something got funny with the HD. Have you tried checkdisk again? Sometimes that takes a few tries.

Otherwise my only idea would be to format.
