I have a Promise card that XP refuses to install. Whenever I try, it goes through the process, but in the end it says there is a problem because the wizard cannot find the specified file. So which file does it mean? Today I installed the card in a Win2K machine without a hitch. I downloaded the drivers from Promise's site, and when they didn't install in XP, I downloaded a slightly different version from Maxtor's site. The card is a Maxtor, which is actually a Promise. It has the Promise latest bios, but I tried it before I flashed it, and again after. It works great with W2K with either bios or driver, but it is a no-go with XP, regardless, even though I have tried various drivers that were developed to make it work in XP. The thing installs, but with a problem, so it is disabled. The controller is there, but the card won't work. Am I missing some system .dll, .inf file, or what?

Bump. Is it a registry installer reference issue? I'm stumped on this one.

Dunno if it's the same thing, but my computer has a Promise raid controller that "won't install" but the only reason it won't is because in the main bios I have it turned off. Make sure if this is something that came with or is to be used with your motherboard, that you have it turned on in the main bios.. hope this helps..

This isn't onboard. It's a PCI card, so nothing will be in the bios about it. I know for sure that XP can't find a file, but all the needed files are there. The problem is which file can't XP find, and what can be done about it?
