My Inspiron 600m running XP SP2 has decided standby means crash. A few weeks ago, standby worked fine. Then, suddenly, when I went into standby, the screen goes blank, and the machine stays on. At that point the machine must be turned off. It will not reserrect. I wish I remembered what I did between standby working and not working.

Since the problem started I have upgraded the bios and upgraded all Microsoft stuff. I upgraded the video driver, since that is what Microsoft said to do, but that just crashed my machine mid-boot. So I had to pull it off through safe-mode.

Obviously, I can live without standby. But I liked it. :(

I apologize for your misery.....I realy don't know what I would do in that kind of situation other than reformat.

Standby functionality is usually gained through chipset drivers. Have you tried reinstalling your notebook's chipset drivers?

I apologize for your misery.....I realy don't know what I would do in that kind of situation other than reformat. That is what I am afraid of, and am trying to avoid. I am far too lazy unless I really need to or its been at least six months.

Standby functionality is usually gained through chipset drivers. Have you tried reinstalling your notebook's chipset drivers?I will keep that in my bag of tricks. I tried it, but it did not for me this time. Thanks.

Anymore ideas?

Thank you.
