I am currently running a WinXP installation and I get an error message that says it could not write the file driver.cab. I try 2 different CDs and 2 different operating systems and it happens in both the Win2k install and the WinXP install. I'm pretty sure hardware is a factor. Has anyone else had this problem and if so, how did you fix it?

when my cd rom was starting to fail before finally kicking the bucket I had this issue with xp installing once it reached the driver.cab file. I loaded it from my dvd/cd rom after it failed in the cd rom and had no problems.. few weeks later cd rom finally went out on me..

can't you copy the .cab file to the harddrive before installing?

If you can, see if that fixes it.

memory issues can cause a particular crash similar to this.

Well, I have the driver.cab problem fixed. Thanks. I just used another WinXP cd. I thought it was more complicated because it also happened with the Win2k cd. Thanks.
