I am running XP pro and my dvd burner only shows as a regular cd drive in the list until i eject it and then it shows as a dvd burner. The problem i am having is that i can't get any burning software i.e. dvd cloner 2 to recognize it as a target but it will as a source. I am not exactly sure what brand it is as my parents bought it for me locally and i tossed the box it came in. The box was blue in color and had a girl on the front dancing. It is a dl 16x dual format burner and I updated the drivers for it at www.drvupdate.com.

Make sure your ASPI drivers are installed. I use Nero InfoTool to check.

Hmm, my friend had that problem where his DVD-RW was showing as a CD-ROM drive under my computer but his ASPI drivers weren't installed. But since Nero is telling you they're installed check to see how you have the jumper set on the back of the DVD-RW drive. Is the DVD-ROM on the same IDE channel as your hard drive? If you so how is it set up? Is your hard drive set to master and your DVD-RW set to slave? If you don't already, you can try putting the DVD-RW on the second IDE channel as a master and see what happens. I have my two hard drives on IDE 1 and my optical drives on IDE 2 with my DVD-RW as the master and my DVD-ROM as a slave. Also check to see if there's new firmware for your DVD-RW and try flashing it. Just read the instructions first and then flash it.
Edit: By the way does Nero list the drives correctly if you try to burn something?
Might be DVD Cloner 2 acting flakey. I would try a different DVD burning program and see what happens, before you decide to flash it.
