I think this is some BS. I am signing up for the Matrix Online stress test and guess what it asks me for.

Yes, MMORPG betas usually require it. Some do have alternatives though... sortof.

I am surprised. This is a beta as I understand, not a free trial.
The only reason I am having second thoughts is because the discontinue process may be obscure before you get charged at least once or so.

I've never been in a beta that required a c.c. and I've probably been in 10 different betas.

If your CC company provides a one time use CC# service, create one with a low limit and an early expiration date and use that... if you really want to bother with a franchise that already has gone to crap.

It's for age verification. Most 13 year-olds don't have credit cards, and most betas have NDAs. Since you need to be 18 to sign a legally binding document, you need the card to prove that you are above age.

No, NEVER have I needed to have a Credit Card to sign up to a MMORPG beta and I have done many, from WoW, Lineage 2, EQ, EQ2, Earth and Beyond, Eve Online, Horizons and even City of Heroes.

This makes sense. I was woried that this was more of a free trial type of deal where if you do not cancel it, you will be charged. It didn't make a whole lot of sense because this is supposedly a week long stress test and the game is not due out for some time.
