Been on AIM all evening, and somebody with a screen name I've never seen before messages me. I have AIM set to ask my permission first, so I make him wait and google his screen name first. Only hit is what appears to be a defunct clan website. I don't even play games at all.

I don't know anybody by his (real) name, nor does he know anyone by mine. He has no idea how I turned up in his buddy list. I thought maybe I'd bought something from him, but he doesn't visit any of the forums I do. I thought maybe someone else once used my PC and chatted with him, but he doesn't know anybody where I live or where I went to school.

How the heck would I get on this total stranger's list?

I'm just going to write it off as a random AIM glitch.

You are far too paranoid for your own good. Unless of course they're soliciting for you to meet them in a dark alley at midnight in a rural location.

He told me to meet him at Kate Beckinsale's....

Some clients do not require authentication when adding someone. Gaim for example may still not (at least, it used to not do so.) Apparently the security was integrated into the client more than the server, making it almost pointless to even have the option. (Glad I don't use this service or any like it anymore.)

Thing is, I just showed up at random on his list. We chatted with each other and could not figure out who the other person was, or how I got on his list at all.

A mod at another forum told me his daughter was sending AIM messages to her boyfriend but his dad was receiving them instead. I'll bet something's wrong at AIM.
