I'm pretty much a noob when it comes to computer audio. I have an HTPC that I run a coax SPDIF connection from my onboard soundcard (Via 8235) to my logitech 5500 speakers. Everything works okay for the most part, but I'm still pretty confused about a lot of the concepts behind digital/analog, bit-rates, and pretty much everything that has to do with audio. I can get everything to work by messing around with it, but I'd like some guidance so that I can really understand what's going on. Any suggestions about certain sites that may be able to give me the run down about audio (especially computer audio)?

One more question: I have a DVICO fusion HDTV card. In the audio section, I can choose from 5.1 channel, directsound output, and wave output. What do these options mean exactly. I know that both direct sound and wave output will send a Dolby Digital signal to my receiver, but other than that, I don't understand the difference and why I would use one over the other.
