C - System and small applications

now here is my question

Have about 25 gig in music

I also download a lot. Sometimes huge linux dvds, ect

My D is a 5400 40 gig

and my E is 120 gig 7200

Should I use the smaller, slower D for the music and the faster E for the games/downloads or

downloads on the slower drive and the music on the faster drive with the games

Any input?

consider your optical drive is far far slower than either HDD
it has no problems serving up the music

however you might consider seperating the OS from the P2P
P2P by its very nature is small, nearly constant accesses
and will fragment the hell out of a partition, and likely lag the OS as well if its on the same drive
whereas the music might be a kinder access pattern to share with the OS
at least you can guarantee the music files arent fragmented ;)

OS and programs should go on faster drives. Movies and Music should go on slower drives.
