My HD fried and I am starting to look for a new one. I can't buy a Raptor becuz im short on cash, should I buy SATA or IDE? looking at Ncix (http://ncix.com/products/index.php?majorcatid=103&minorcatid=109) and cant seem to deside, dont need a huge drive no more then 100 gig - thanks for any sugestions

If your not getting a Raptor, other SATA drives only offer marginally better, or the same, performance than IDE.

Look for one with a big buffer and good price. Unless it's a Raptor SATA doesn't matter too much over IDE.

That is only partially true. Sustained transfer rates are generally better with SATA, even using first gen SATA drives, than with IDE.

And don't forget the cable size as well. Improved air flow never hurts.

i say get the SATA. improved data rate and much smaller cables. and if performance is the same, why not get the SATA anyways? might as well w/ the cables.

i agree...take a look at the hdd in my sig its the fastest drive on the market besides the raptors. and there only $170 on newegg
