My old rig's been collectin' dust in my closet. I wanna upgrade its case and mobo, but I'd like to have a second monitor so I don't have to keep switching between systems.
Since I have an LCD, I can't go back to non-flat screens. I've browsed newegg and many other stores for a cheap but decent monitor, but I can't make up my mind. LCDs aren't in my budget, so I'm mostly looking for a flat-screen CRT, no bigger than 17", but I'm open to any suggestions regardless of preferences.
NEC is probably the way to go with flat CRTs. while they're usually the more expensive ones, it's usually worth it. I had a KDS X-Flat that was awesome, but it didn't quite get to three years old. It was a great monitor though and was only 120 bucks from walmart.

Please try not to laugh at me too hard, but when my old monitor died and I had to get something locally and pronto, I ended up with an eMachines (http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/eMachines-Monitor-EVIEW17F3-/sem/rpsm/oid/89289/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do) from circuit shitty. Out of the limited selection they had in stock, I thought it had the best picture quality, better than the Compaq or HP or even the 19" NEC (and I didn't want anything bigger than a 17").
It's actually pretty damned decent if you don't need anything beyond 1280 res. Almost didn't buy it because it has a fugly blue ring glow light, but I just covered that up. :)
