I bought a new 250gb maxtor hard drive a couple days ago and tranfered 155gigs of my files over to it from my 200gb maxtor hard drive, I then formatted my 200gb and put an operating system on it. When it was done I was looking at some things i had on my 250gb (D: ) drive and found that the disk was unaccesable... I later restarted the computer and when it was starting up windows 2000 did a scan... finding errors on the (D: ) drive, and then started "retrieving orphaned files." (it might have said recovering orphaned files... I'm not sure) When it was finished doing seemingly all of my files, I could access the drive and thought everything was okay, but when I looked at my files... nearly none of them were the file they actually were... Music files were other songs, and text or doc files... were all symbols, but if you rename the .doc files to .mp3... it would play a song, as if the files arn't in sync with the actual data... I don't know what the heck is going on... Any one have any ideas? Some of the files are the files that they are supposed to be... it seems like about half are okay, and half are screwed up... I have some things that are really important though that are messed up and so I tried to see if I could recover them from the original 200gb (C: ) drive with a recovery program called stellar pheonix, but it could not find any files... (and when I did an advanced search of all logical drives on (C: ) it found two partitions, the second may have been my old one... but the program had errors and closed every time I try to scan the second partition...) So If someone can help me out on this really wierd issue, and even recommend a really awesome recovery program for formatted drives... I would Greatly! Appreciate it! Thanks
