What's the difference between DVD-R/RW and DVD+R/RW? And does the type of disc need to match the burner?

Because the authorities (whoever they are) never set in stone a standard for DVDs, + and - are two different formats of media--there is even a DVD RAM format that isn't very popular. The type of disc would need to match the burner, but most burners, particularly the new ones write in both + and -, so you should be able to use either. RW just means rewriteable, like the CD RWs.

You should also take note of how fast your burner writes on particular media. Case in point, my DVD burner is advertised as a 16x writer; it writes 16x on DVD+R but only 8x max on DVD-R. Granted, I haven't been able to find any 16x media to write on, let alone 8x.., when you're buying media for your burner, you should take advantage of that.

Thanks, I just needed to make sure what I thought was right, but I have too much doubt in myself and I didn't want to waste a bunch of money on something this stupid. Thanks again.
