First of all, sorry for the cross posting, but I wasn’t sure which forum would be better.

I’m having a horrid time trying to re-install WindowsXP Pro on my system. My system is as follows:

Athlon64 FX-55
ASUS A8V Deluxe
2x 1GB Consair PC3200 XMS
BFG GeForce 6800 Ultra
WD 74GB SATA Drive
Plextor DVD +/- RW 712A SATA DRIVE
ENERMAX Noisetaker 600W PSU

My HD got all junked up and gets stuck during the loading stage. (I am unable to login even under Safe Mode.) But it’s no big deal. All my files were backed up and I want to do a fresh install anyway.

I’m booting from the 6 WinXP boot disks and hitting F6 at the right time to install my SATA drivers. Unfortunately, at the end, it tells me that no CD-ROMs were found. WTF? I’ve tried loading the VIA SATA Raid drivers AND the Promise SATA drivers, but still the CD-ROM is not found. I DO NOT have the HD and the CD-ROM plugged into the Raid ports.
Now, when my BIOS loads it lists both the HD and the CD-ROM and will even try booting from the HD…. At which point it gets stuck in loading Windows. I am unable to boot from the SATA CD-ROM directly OR with the help of the 6 WinXP boot disks.

HELP! I am frustrated and can’t think of what else to do.

The “6 windows boot disks” part is probably your problem. Sounds as if you made a backup / recovery set from another machine. I’ve tried that with a few people’s computers with very little success.

If that’s the case call the manufacture of your original computer and request a proper system disk, after all you did pay for windows. Most companies will charge you a small shipping fee but will send a disk, or copy of the disk. There is only one disk when doing a full install.

Give that a shot, or, whatever version of Windows you are using see if a buddy will loan you their disk, just make sure it’s the same version as what you had to start with do YOUR “Key” will work.

The 6 WinXP boot disks are not made as a normal Windows boot disk is made. You need to download the program from Microsoft and it creates them for you. They do not have any information on the regarding the specific computer that was used to create them.
