I bought a new samsung drive in the summer to replace a failing maxtor. I used the sammy to store half of my movie collection and all of my mp3s (about 15,000 mostly full cds, all legal of course).
My computer had been actin strange, mostly random crashes and lockups but i blamed it on my "c" drive. Shortly before replacing it i got a message saying the rap folder on my music/half movie drive was corrupt (no jokes please). Well i bought a new drive, reinstalled xp and theres about 10 "cds" i noticed on that drive so far that when i try to play a song from, either doesnt play, plays all static, or plays from the middle of a different techno song which i also have on the drive with the music (in a folder called techno). ive never seen anything like this and i was hoping someone had some insight.

ps: the techno songs didnt start playing in place of some of the rap songs until after i ran scandisk.

sounds ilke it never shut down properly or something. u have many cross linked corruptd files. them files do need to be replaced.

ie. play trance and it plays a it of rap / rnb etc. due to link points to same location on hddd. u need to do a scan disk

I'm currently having problems with a cheap samsung drive I picked up recently too. I returned the first one and exchanged for another because the first one was just crap. Now the second acted fine while I installed windows... and now its giving me more problems. Bottom line... I only use seagate in systems that have important files...
What model do you have
Samsung SP0802N

the new "c" drive i bought is a samsung sp0802n. i did have some problems installing windows when i first reinstalled it but i think they were due to my error. the drive with the movies and mp3s is a samsung sp1604n.
the reason i went with the samsungs is the 3 year warranty. the maxtor i bought luckily had a 3 year warranty and i was afraid to buy another drive without 3 years.

could it have anything to do with the fact that it originally was on my onboard raid controller (although not hooked up in a raid array) and now i have it opn a regular ide controller? also im starting to have corruption in other folders like oldies and rock. i really do not want to lose these mp3s. i tried putting the drive back on the raid controller and it wouldnt get detected although the slave drive i have hooked up with it would get detected. this is really starting to bug me because ill try to play a song and it either wont load, it will play a techno song, or it will just be noise, like pops and static. please help ben
