My SATA hard drive and my SATA DVD/CD burner are showing up as SCSI devices in Windows XP after a fresh format/install. I don't think they showed up like this before!

The HDD is working properly, but the burner will not burn.

What happened? How do I fix this?

check the manufacturer site for new drivers, check ur SATA bus drivers too for possible updates.... isnt memorex the only company manking SATA cd/dvd drivers right now? check for updates and such etc... most likely your bus or the cd/dvd drive drivers.

Yes it is an nForce chipset and I did install the drivers... is this the issue?

Is it time to reformat and reinstall?

no, you dont have to reinstall, nothing is wrong with the drives, just how they are displayed

iirc, if it really bothers you that much you can uninstall the device and it should reinstall after a restart

Plextor has at least 2 SATA burner models out there, the 712SA and the newest 716SA. The 716SA has some strict compatibility requirements for their burners with SATA. Check www.plextor.com for compatibility lists.

As for it showing up as a SCSI device, yeah, normal. SATA in linux shows the same way. :)

He said the burner won't burn, so I gather it's a little bit more than a cosmetic problem. Reinstalling it should work though.
