The Hitachi DeskStar drives claim to have a configurable low-power, low-acoustic mode.

How does this work? How do I enable it? I've poked around at the www.hitachigst.com site, but I can't find anything besides whitepapers that say it exists.

I finally found it; there's a feature tool on their download page (http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/download.htm) that you can run under DOS and diddle the drive's settings for the extra features.
