Can't install XP Pro. Error message appearing.

I finally decided to try and install win xp after using Win 98se and after formatting and getting the first reboot and finally the win xp pro installation screen I encountered an error that says

Installation failed D:\1386\asms
Error Message: the parameter is incorrect.

Any help? I had to re-install windows 98 on my machine so I could get online and try and find the problem!

You can try to low level format the HDD and reinstall XP using the six disk set...using this for Pro (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=83F53BE9-28FA-40E8-8EC2-631504EF5E26) and this one for Home (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=FBE5E4FC-695F-43E5-AF05-719F45C382A4) versions. I have never had a failed installation using these disks after formatting. You will have to upgrade to SP2 after installation, but that is a just minor annoyance :cool:
