Is Windows XP x64 available to the public yet? Microsoft's site hasn't been updated since December 10th, 2004... so I have no idea if things have changed.

It's available, yes. But it's not quite finalized.

April release?.. Argh.. guess I'll go with 32bit until 64bit reaches final.

Using Windows64 RC2 (rumored to be RTM). If you download through the Customer Preview Program (free for 365 days), then you'll get RC1.

Both are remarkably stable and RC2 only fixed one program for me (mIRC would crash sometimes).

The entire x86-64 Windows is remarkably stable and comes with quite a few drivers built in. The newest nForce3 drivers are built in, it had 67 series GF6 drivers built in, detected my Marvell Yukon on install (without drivers from me), etc.

Plus, my Avast AVG (with the newest beta) works perfect and integrates completely with Win64. All in all, I'm using it as my primary OS now.

Quite stable, quite nice. Its networking seems a bit smoother than 32-bit SP2'ed WinXP or WinXP MCE (SP2 with a couple of differences, lacking domain support and has Media Center application).

Hoping they give us a clear answer on how we purchase this puppy.

how is the SATA on the RC1? I remember someone told me that x64s didnt support SATA drives yet.

I have RC1 on another partition on my system and it works fine on my 74Gb raptor (my only hard drive). Seems to run great, but im not sure i would pay for an upgrade until i started seeing software using 64bit.

Only problem so far is the lack of proper drivers from companies. Creative and Logitech in particular.

i believe that if you purchased a win xp copy, you can upgrade to the win64 bit one for free.

only 99 percent sure though

You can get creative drivers from preview.creativelabs.com. Thats interesting if you can get the upgrade for free.

I used it for a few days but found alot of programs dont work on it.

"This application is not currently compatible for the 64bit operating system"

They are at RC2 right now, so the final version should be coming out soon...
