I am going to get a new computer in a week or so. Right now i'm running a Dell Celeron 1.7, 256 ram, etc... :( (in otherwords it sucks.) I would like to know what would be the best components to get rite now. I prefer it to be an AMD 64 3500, 1 GB ram, and Geforce 6600 GT. Any other different components would be good i want a couple of suggestions. My spending limit is around $1200-$1300, but i can max it to $1500. I'd like for it to be the best it can be for my price range. I would greatly appreciate an answer if not many answers.

P.S.- feel free to suggest any other proccessor, videocard, whatever...
Also i want to be able to do some overclocking. Depending on my luck getting the AMD upto 4000+ (hopefully)

Optical drives, HDD's, and case not important rite now but feel free to make any suggestions. Thanx

I'd say to go with a 6800GT instead of the 6600GT to go with that 3500+.

Get a 3000+, 512MB of TCCD, Neo2, 6800GT and overclock the piss out of it w/ a nice copper heatsink.

for about $1500, you can get a Winchester 3500+ processor AMD, ATI X850 XT PE (best on market right now) 1GB of DDR3200 RAM, and get a fast HDD such as the raptor with 74GB. That plus all the other expenses such as case, motherboard, and other things, will total up to around $1500. That is NOT including monitor, speakers, keyboard, or mouse. Just keep current and get better later. It's best price wise.

That is pretty much a top of the line computer. The 3500+ can OC to 4000+ speeds, in which 4000+ speeds are almost identical to the FX-53 speeds, ($740 value). Make sure you get a motherboard that supports PCI-E of course if you plan on getting the X850 XT PE. This is actually the setup I plan on doing for my new computer I plan on building in the future. My current setup is much like yours, but slightly better. 2.0ghz P4 processor, 256mb DDR RAM (upgraded to 768mb) 20GB HDD, GeForce ti 200 video card.

I score 940 on 3Dmark03 and I can't run 05.

Oh yeah, it's a Dell.

On a side note... I saw Dell selling this computer today about three hours ago on television. The computer had as listed... "a good video card, 2.8ghz P4 processor, 512mb of RAM, 80 GB hdd, all for $1799!!!" It came with a monitor and speakers though.

Funny, my 1.8ghz p4 with 512mb RDRAM and a ti200 got slightly over 1200 on 3dmark03, 1500 when I OCed it. Anyways, are you just using the keyboard/monitor/speakers/mouse from your current rig?

am going to get a keyboard and mouse considering i'm giving my old comp. to my parents. My brother will get them another monitor. I'm keeping my 19inch.
As for the keyboard and mouse i'm most likey going to get this http://xoxide.com/a2209.html if not that than maybe this http://xoxide.com/thxasekeandm1.html.

As for a case I'd like to get the MGE Dragon which was supposed to come out in Dec. but is now coming out in March. For a sound card i'm planning on getting the Soundblaster Audigy 2 or Z2.

For Ram I was thinking one of these. For the 512mb i'll get 2.

As for speakersi might wait a little while to get the Logitech 5500 speakers.
I don't need an SLI board cause i know that i'm not gonna get a second video card.
For the mother board i would like something that has PCI-E cause i want to get a PCI-E video card.
Also i wouldn't mind a suggestion for a good intel system. and 1 more thing which would u say is better to go with right now. Intel or AMD. Remember am planning on doing some OC'ong if i can.

Forget the TCCD memory, if you remember the write up one of the members of this forum wrote up about timings and thier actual real world effect in AMD machines, and it was shown to be extremly minimal. If your overclocking get some rated to run at higher speeds, but if not buying lower end ram won't hurt very much (maybe 1-2 fps MAX).

Addendum: SLI is great for upgrading, in say 6 months when the 6800GT goes for 1/2 you'll be able to double your performance for a minimal amount. It's definatly worth the extra money to get the board.
