Newegg charges more for the 2400+ 35 watt, so I'm wondering, on average which of these cpu's is going to have the better OC?

when the 2400+ 35watt was cheaper than the 2600+ 45watt i used to say flip a coin.. i also reccomended the 2200+ 35watt and bought one myself.. they were $77 but i think the price actually went up..
on average, i would say the 2600+ 45watt would overclock better, mainly becasue it is a faster chip at stock.. but at the same time most of the mobiles whether they are 35, or 45 watt can at least hit 2.5ghz and are great for the money..
but seriously at this point, especially when you are about to spend rougly $100 on a processor, you might as well spend $115 for a 2800+ a64.. unless you have a socket a motherboard sitting around collecting dust..
i would reccomend building a duron 1.6ghz + shuttle an35 or some other cheap socket A motherboard as a budget system.. if you got that thing up to 200fsb that would be 2.4 ghz.. and that might be pretty atainable with the 1.5v stock voltage.. and the cache can be unlocked on some of them too.. just a thought..

Well, this would be an uprgade for my AN35 AXP 1700+ (1.6 ghz) system. Unless the A64 2800+ would offer a ton of performance (how does the 2800+ 64 overclock?) over a AXP mobile oc'ed, I can't justify spending money on a new board (what board/chipset is the one to get?)

there would be a pretty big difference
just grab a Socket 754 2800+ and a DFI UT 250gb and trust me youll be happy for awhile to come

if you already have an axp1700+ then you won't get that much of a boost.. if you play games and are looking for an improvement in that respect than i guess you would - i don't play games, so idon't know... but i have run my cpu anywhere from 1.6 - nearly 2.6 ghz.. and it really doesn't make much difference...
i would hold onto your $100 and add another $100 to it over time and use that to upgrade to a64...

what kind of overclock could one get on a 2800+ A64?

i am reading somewhere in the 2.3 - 2.5 ghz range.. i would look it up some though.. i haven't really been paying attention too much.. and there are differences between newcastles, clawhammers, winchesters cores.. i dont' know which is which.. but there are definitely cerain cores and cache sizes to look for...
