Well, i dont think I like the way WOW is looking.... It doesnt have all the eye candy Im wanting in a game, and I like pushing my system... I used to play EQ2 religiously, and now I play ALOT of FPSs, such as Painkiller, Doom 3, etc... Now, Im feeling the MMORPG bite me... which of all the latest MMORPGs should I try, keeping in mind though I will only have around 20 hours a week or so to put into it.. Working 40 hours and going to school 12 sucks.

for eye candy, EQ2 is the current top dog. Not really sure why that's your goal as opposed to gameplay, but whatever.

Yeah kinda considering guild wars too...

And as for gameplay, like I said, I enjoyed the old EQ, but I dont have that kind of time now

I'm in exactly the same boat as you, I enjoyed EQ and now have less time. I love WoW. You should reconsider it.

WoW's graphics are quite nice. You don't need all the technology to make a game look awesome. You might want to reconsider, or see if anybody has a collectors edition trial period or something...

Nah, AO was my thing back in the day...

How does one obtain this 'free trial'.... hmmm... Might be worth it atleast trying, wouldnt hurt anything.

I'm playing EQ2 now, and i work a 48 hour work week. That's 6 hours of work, plus 1 hour for lunch each day during the week. I also do freelance artwork for a couple hours when I get home, so you could say that my day is pretty long.

I spend maybe an hour or two a night on EQ2. That's plenty of time for me to do what I want to do within my guild. IE get quests, harvest materials, help newer members, etc, etc, etc...

With the MAYBE 12-15 hours a week that I play, I've become a lvl 30 Wizard as of last night, and I really only started playing the beginning of December, and that was on a different character. I switched to my new character, the Wizard, about a week before Christmas.

People will say that you have to devote umpteen hours and hours and hours into EQ2 to get anywhere, but I say that that train of thought is entirely mistaken. Most of my experience gain has been gleened from questing with my guild, and a bit of it from exp sessions inside the Ruins of Varsoon and the like.

I dont have the time to devote my entire life to a game. I dont work that way. And i'll say this... I was in the BETA of WoW, and while I thought it was mildly entertaining, it just did not live up to the seriousness that I was looking for in an MMORPG. Coming from SWG, I was tired of forced Jedi PvP that I had to endure day in and day out, the constant yammerings of the |33+ 12 year old who felt that making your gameplay miserable was cool, and the utter lack of content of any kind. I saw a bit of this evolve into WoW. Not even CLOSE to the extent in SWG, but I saw it. I dont like PvP, and feel that it only promotes hatred, so going to an EQ2 environment where PvP of any kind is unavailable fulfilled what I was looking for in a game.

Anyways... i'm rambling on and on... See ya =)

Oddly enough I reactivated my EQ 2 account to see how things were after all the latest patches and fixes and found it quite bland and uninspired when compared to the graphics of WoW.

How old school are you?

If you can stomach the Sony blunderings, i think you can get a station pass and hop around on any of theri games. Just added SWG and JTL. Pretty game if you crank the graphics :)

Free...just DL the client off the homepage and play. They have it free until January 2006. Yes, that's right. I said 2006.

Like someone else said, you should reconsider WoW. I think the graphics are beautiful, but that's just my opinion.

Wow , Graphics look like dog poo to me, *shrug*.
It doesn't have EQ pre expansion magic. oh no.

I should sell my wow game and account on ebay.

I played EQ for 5 years before quitting shortly before I got my new job, which leaves me with little time for MMO's, so I also have to recommend giving WoW a second thought. The game is VERY solo friendly, and there will always be things to do, no matter the amount of time you have.

And hey, if it turns out you really don't like it, then there should be more than enough people willing to give you $40 for it (or more, depending on how long they continue with the limited distribution).

Started EQ after Kunark... late 99, early 2000 ish.

Before that I played Ultima, and all that good stuff...

Im downloading WoW... but these graphics... I think I'll feel like Im playing EQOA for PS2 or something...

Graphics don't make/break a game really, and I personally thing they are very nice. Let us know how you like it.

Graphics might not for you... but for me they play a huge part... If I cant get emersed in a game I dont like it, and for me Audio and Visuals play a huge part in that.

Well, Im currently debating WoW now, but the lag is a major factor....

Plus, spending 2 grand on a system to play games that doesnt max them out... Oh man makes me sick at my stomach.

Also, can somebody please tell me how fast leveling goes in WoW? Thanks

Leveling is faster than in other games, but you're not going to be level 60 in 2 weeks unless you play 24/7 (some people did).

Leveling is fun, in my opinion, because there are a LOT of quests to do, and they all yield decent experience. Unlike EQ where it was a grind, in this game you can solo just as well as you can group.

Try it man, I'm telling you that you'll very much enjoy it. The lag issues are NOT as bad as people make them out to be. Its only been the last couple days while they do some backend server maintence. There have been 0 lag problems since launch week until recently.

Went by Best Buy, Electronics Boutique, Walmart and Target.. no WoW at any...

Yea, you're gonna have lots of problems finding it. Call around and pray. Its really popular.

Plus, WoW has a rest factor that helps the casual gamer level. If you haven’t heard of it, what it does is accumulates while you are either in an inn, a major city, or logged off. So while you are crafting, working in the auction house, or chatting in an inn, your xp bar has a little pipper that starts moving up. Then when you leave, until you fill your xp bar up to that pipper all mob kill xp is doubled. It makes a HUGE difference, allowing people who only play an hour or so a day to keep up with those playing 3-4 hours.

I’ve not played EQ, so I can’t speak on that.

EQ2 has this as well. It's called your Vitality Timer. It has a High/Medium/Low setting, and dependant upon where it is after your rest period, you can get double, half, or quarter exp on top of the normal exp from the mob you are battling.

Go with EQ2. It's graphic and sound detail is simply amazing. With it's 60+ video tweak settings and having been made for current and future hardware, you can push your system to it's limits if you so choose.

The crafting / tradeskills of EQ2 I thought was a little bland at first, mainly because I didn't understand most of it. Recently I've been working on this more and discovered it gets pretty deep, a whole additional world of sorts. Depending on what you're making, it can be fun, frustrating, exciting, nerve-racking, and mostly rewarding. The broker system allows you to sell your crafted items if you want, or buy those hard to find items (sort of like the classifieds).

As for quests, some are simple while some are hard, but most have a level of challenge to them that makes them fun. NPC interaction / voiceovers is simply the BEST I've ever seen in my 9 years of gaming.

You can solo play for the majority of time, but once in a while you will have to group to fight the tough creatures. The total time played as my level 17 Brawler has been about 60% solo and 40% group. And I've never had a problem finding a group, usually just set myself to LFG and within 2-5 minutes I always have invites from similar leveled groups. I will honestly say the 95% of all the people I've grouped with have been pretty cool, considerate, and fun, which actually makes me want to group more. My ingame friends list is added to all the time with people I group with, and often I look them up if they are online.

As for EQ2 not being PvP, I am glad it's not. There is so much to do that it doesn't need it, and the other PvP games keep the immature idiots out of EQ2.

While EQ2 is addictive, I usually only play about 1-2 hours per weeknight and maybe 2-3 hours per weekend day, and it works out good for me.

Ask if you have any questions, or PM me.

Well I can't vouch for EQ2 or Wow but I'm eagerly waiting for this.
vanguard

Being made by the same dude that started Sojourn mud and Everquest.
Magic shall return to MMORPG once again.

Wow, that Sigil game looks nice AND it looks to be old school gameplay, sweeeetness.

As far as my decision, appears I might go buy WoW, simply because EQ2 appears to have some major problems...Im not too happy about the graphics, but I guess Ill just run uber high resolution to make me feel better.

I play WoW myself and I think the gfx are fine. They are not fabulous, but just crank it up. It actually looks pretty good at 1600x1200 w/ 4x fsaa. I find that if i play any lower resolution it looks like shit though. Also be advised that lag is not just a problem now. There has always been lag in IronForge (lagforge most people call it) because of the auction house and a lot of people afk there. However, most of the rest of the world is lag free a lot of the time. Of course jackasses at blizzard put a big ring pit in lagforge that you always fall in because of the lag.

See dano, I love hearing stuff like that... I love having a good excuse to upgrade every 6 months.

Another question, does a 56k connection matter on either? I can play other games fine, just making sure theres no problems here.... Im going to the store today... and if they have WoW, Im getting it, if not, looks like a sale for EQ2

I have a bunch of guildmates that play on 56k connections. They dont seem to have much of a problem at all from what I can tell. I use broadband, so I've never experienced it myself however.

Such as?? Where did you hear/read that?

No problems myself, and none with 4 others I know that play it.

People knock WoW cause it doesn't use all the latest buzzword graphics features. I've played both for way too much time lately. You really have to see WoW in action to appreciate it. It's pushing a lot more polygons that EQ2 but everything isn't all shiny and plasticy looking like EQ2. To me it looks 10 times better than EQ2 just becuase there is so much more in the world. The art direction is astounding and the world of WoW really has depth and creativity to it. EQ2 looks barren and lifeless compared to WoW. And as far as not having a lot of time to play then WoW is right up your alley. When you log out you build up an experience bonus equal to how long you stay logged out so when you come back in you double exp for a while. This allows those that don't play as much to get more out of it when they do play.

I myself played everquest for five years and my first system that I loaded it on was a p1 233mhz. I'm not exactly sure how you can be so concerned with graphics so much when you have background experience in AO and EQ.

As for EQ2 vs WoW...I work at EB and as soon as EQ2 came out I was all over it and I kid you not, I lasted maybe a week on the game. I can't exactly tell you what was wrong with it. But I can tell you that it is no EQ and it just felt ....empty.

Having rough times in life right now I decided to purchase WoW to attempt to keep my mind off things and it has done a decent job at that. If you know blizzard, you know that they're gameplay far surpasses their graphics. Blizzard has always had a somewhat artistic way with their graphics. As far as gameplay goes, both eq2 and wow claim that you can log on for an hour and get something accomplished, however, I feel that only WoW lives up to its claims.

I understand that you're wanting a game that will challenge the power of your system and amaze you with eye candy. But an online RPG is not what you're looking for. I feel confident in saying that most will agree with me when I say that these games are not so popular due to their graphics.

As for the problem with finding a copy of WoW...600k+ copies have been sold since the release of WoW and rumor has it that blizzard has actually asked venders to stop selling untill they can handle the server population problems.

Mmm... i heard the same thing as well. With the popularity of WoW right now, i'm really not surprised that they had to put a temporary halt on sales. Even though I'm not fond of the game, I have to give props to Blizzard for marketing.

CoH was definately fun, for a bit, and had great graphics, incredible character development, and really fun powers (like teleport and flying). Unfortunately, it was WAY too linear and repetative. Fight gangs of badguys, over and over and over and over and over. Take the same exact missions over and over and over. Go into a warehouse, kill gangmembers, leave. Rinse and repeat.

It was so fun with certain parts, but SOOOO boring with the gameplay. I'd like to revisit it again someday though. Maybe after I get bored of WoW in a year or 5 ;).
