Does anyone know the difference between the two? I have a MX1000 for my main box, and I currently have an MX500 and MX310 for my travel mice. I wanted to know is there any difference between the MX500 and 510? I like the feel of the MX500 and I was wondering if it's worth the uupgrade.

They say it's suppose to repond faster but I will be damn if I can really tell the difference and infact I prefer the 500 because of the silver. If they 500 is doing the job I dont see any need to make the upgrade but you can find them for as little as $30.

Some reviews I've read suggested that it wasn't worth the upgrade if you already had an MX510. However if you are looking for a new mouse it was worth the price of the upgrade.

On Newegg, the MX510 is cheaper than the MX500...is it supposed to be? I thought the 510 was a step up, which usually means a price jump too, especially with Logitech.

I've used both for one week each and quite frankly, I did not see any difference in terms of responsiveness or precision. The one thing thats sets them apart imo is the finish. The rough 500 vs the smooth 510. (and the color of course) A matter of taste.
One more thing that could make a difference:
Does the 500 have a weight inside (I haven't checked) that you can remove to make it lighter ? (It's the case for the 510)

You really can't tell a difference. I'd say that since you already have an MX500, you do not need to get rid of it and go buy a MX510. However, if you got another computer and needed another mouse, you couldn't go wrong with the MX510.

mx510 = 12bit, which removes the negative accel that normally occurs when using 800dpi on all the standard mx sensor mice (mx300/500/700/900/etc)
