hi, can anyone tell me what "other" resolutions does HL2 have for running widescreen mode?

i know the native one is 1680x1050 (duh) but what about the rest of them?

please list them here and if possible along with screenshots, also if you could compare the lower resolutions with 0XAA with 4XAA/8X

my 9800 pro for sure can't run HL2 natively with this monitor at the smoothest gameplay i want.

thanks!

my system: A64 @ 211 x 12 = 2532Mhz / 1GB PC3200 / ATi 9800 Pro

I second that, I have similar setup now.

2.4C P4
1gig PC2700
9800Pro

I want to upgrade to 2005FPW from a viewsonic 15" lcd and can't afford/nor want to afford a $450-500 video card.

It looks jsut as good at 1280x768 as my Hyundai L70S looks at 1024x768. Which looks fine :D .

There's no other res between 1680x1050 and 1280 x 768?

I guess that sounds about right 1280x768--> wxga and 1680x1050-->wsxga+

that's really good to know that HL2 supports lower res widescreen displays...my 2600+ and 9600XT couldnt handle 1680x1050...no way ^_^ i assume it also supports these resolutions in CSS..right?

Here is a good site on how to set up your system for Wide Screen Gaming (http://www.tigerdave.com/wgl/). I hope to test several of these out this weekend.

Are those actually options in the game? If so, I dont have them. :(

You set your aspect ratio to "Widescreen 16:10" instead of "Normal (4:3)" and then you should be able to select all three resolutions that i mentioned: 1680x1050, 1280x768, and 768x480. Thats all i had to do.

How annoying. The guy I bought this BFG 6800GT from said it didnt support his WS res. I thought he just didnt know what he was talking about.

How odd. Does windows support the other resolutions i mentioned?

Nope. I get the same two for WS.

BFG 6800GT. 67.03 drivers, and the 2005FPW driver is installed.

I added a custom res of 1280x768 and I can now select in display propterties. I can also now select it in HL2. I get about 20 frames more, but I just dont like it as much.
