y not just ues an 120v ac to 24v dc Converter as my dad can get them for under $50 would this beter then uesing 2 pc psu for runing one?

Depends on the converter. Pelts don't like a lot of ripple in their voltage. Link?

could you not ues 2 12 v car battery and put a good battery charger to keep them from geting low wouldint that give you the 24v you need for a peltier?

Yeah, that'd work. Sort of. Lead-acid batteries are closer to 12.5 V, battery chargers put out 14 or 15 volts depending on the load and design. It would means some experimenting.

It actually might be better. There are no 12v pelt. They usually work better around 13-14v as they are 16.4v rated or 26v rated.

lol....don't bother trying to power peltiers with batteries.

ONE of my 226 Watt peltiers will totally drain the massive deep cycle deisel truck battery I have , in 26 mins.

Stick with PSU's.

more I think about it... it sounds like those car battery chargers would be ideal petier power supplier than most of things around. good voltage, amperage. Decently priced vs specific tec psus. Just wondering how good the signal quality is.

Hmm.....k....the thing about the whole charger/battery thing :
If the peltier draws more current than the charger , the battery will drain .If not , you don't need the battery....You just hook up the Peltier to the charger.

Now (using my 226 W pelts as an example(12V x 25A)).........
A 12v x 25 amp battery charger is waaaaay more expensive than either : The proper PSU (~190$) or as I'm runnig , An Antec truepower 550 12eps (165$)((36 amp 12v single rail)).....

Thax : If the current/voltage rating of those 'converters' matches / is enough for your pelts (do NOT exceed the max V of the pelt) , go for it ! . It's a damn good deal ... and they might be moddable either way .

As far as AC ripple goes ; Yea they don't like it , but filter caps are easy , besides , if you want true control of your pelt , PWM is what your're using , and then yer building yer own PSU neways. :p

Check ebay for battery charger. Besides, chargers are 13.4v not 12v. Even better for pelts.
Oh, and did I tell you computer PSU need to be grounded well or you can enjoy frying few things? (including your brain :P)
